Yesterday marked the fifth anniversary of TransCanada's application to the U.S. State Department for the 1,700-mile pipeline from Alberta to Texas known as the Keystone pipeline, the most famous pipeline in America even though it has not been built.
Gas soared on Friday on a string of refining issues. Gasoline went crazy as wholesalers were stunned by strong demand. Despite near record production, supplies are tightening and refining issues are making things jumpy.
The West Coast gas market is in chaos, driving prices to record highs and causing shortages of gasoline and the closing of gas stations. Refinery fires and maintenance have conspired to reduce supplies.
