The FTSE Russell Index family and its crown jewel, the Russell 2000 Index, are the best-traveled indexes in the world. The Russell 2000 is a mid-cap benchmark equity index. It is arguably the last Home Run standalone product launched by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and it is coming home, as CME Group and Russell announced in April that the 2000 will once again be traded exclusively on Globex as of July 10.
CME Group, the world's leading and most diverse derivatives marketplace, announced it set a total open interest record of 123.1 million contracts on March 9, 2017, driven primarily by strong open interest in the interest rates complex. The new record surpassed the previous open interest record of 122.7 million contracts set on Dec. 15, 2016.
CME Group reached a record high in single-day volume with 44,516,949 contracts traded across all asset classes on Nov. 9, 2016, breaking the previous record of 39,567,064 contracts set on Oct. 15, 2014.
