Will others follow?

  • Yes.
  • Northern Ireland, Scotland, France and Netherlands may consider a referendum on their EU membership.
  • Sweden has been one of UK’s closest EU allies and without UK Swedes may vote to leave the EU.

Will potential contagion create a shake-up in the EU leadership and force reforms in Brussels?

  • Yes.
  • One of the complaints is that the Brussels elite are out of touch with the will of the people.
  • There is a fine line between enhancing trading and economic relationships between countries and the feeling of the member country that they are being dictated to how to live their lives.
  • It is critical that the EU leadership demonstrates the benefits of EU membership to its member countries and its citizens especially on the key issues of jobs, economic growth, terrorist threats and immigration.

Will there be an EU in five years?

  • Some form of the EU may exist in five years. The EU concept of ease of trade between countries is important for the economic success of some of the member countries.  These countries will want to maintain these economic ties with other countries.
