New for Traders: Newedge expands access to Chinese metals markets

By Michael McFarlin

October 11, 2013 • Reprints

Commodities

  • Newedge unveiled an enhanced version of its industry-leading Metals and Commodities trading platform, CN Pulse. The latest version of CN Pulse includes added functionality that improves pre-funding capabilities and offers broader access to Chinese and global Metals markets. The platform also now features a pre-margin risk function to mirror Chinese exchange and domestic trading practices
  • IntercontinentalExchange  has launched ICE Swap Trade, ICE's CFTC-registered Swap Execution Facility (SEF), with trading activity in many different products in the energy and credit default swap (CDS) markets.
  • CME Group Inc., the owner of the world’s largest futures market, applied to create a new kind of venue known as a swap execution facility that will initially focus on trading commodities derivatives.

Options

  • Deutsche Bank announced its collaboration with Bloomberg on a new option adjusted spread (OAS) model. The OAS model combined with Deutsche Bank's Prepayment Model seeks to provide market participants a standard, accurate way to value agency mortgage backed securities (MBS) and collateralized mortgage obligations (CMOs) in today's low interest rate environment.
  • CBOE Holdings, Inc. announced today that Chicago Board Options Exchange and CBOE Futures Exchange will launch trading on Russell 2000® Volatility Index options and futures.

Forex

  • Integral Development Corp. announced that it launched Integral SEF (ISEF,  offered through INFX SEF. This follows the decision by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Division of Market Oversight to grant INFX SEF temporary registration as a swap execution facility.
  • Moscow Exchange and Eurex announced today that they have signed a cooperation agreement for the trading of foreign exchange (FX) derivatives. Through this new element of the partnership between Deutsche Börse and Moscow Exchange, Eurex Exchange will launch Euro/Russian Rouble and U.S. Dollar/Russian Rouble FX futures on its trading system in Q4 2013

Technology

  • Orc announced Orc FIX Access, a key addition to its stand-alone market access offering. Orc FIX Access allows any FIX-enabled trading system to use Orc's native exchange gateways for reaching 150+ global execution venues covering all major asset classes.
  • Interactive Data continues to make investments in extending the energy and commodities content available within FutureSource. As part of this ongoing effort, it has released these additions: Canadian EnerData, OPIS Commentary, Shanghai futures, KCBT/CBTspreads and calendar spread options.

Regulations

  • The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission recently released its long-awaited “Final Rule” to harmonize CFTC disclosure, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements with parallel U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission requirements for registered investment advisers also required to register as commodity pool operators with respect to their operation of certain investment companies (“registered funds”) registered under the U.S. Investment Company Act of 1940 as amended (“1940 Act”). In the Final Rule, the CFTC substantially changed course from the Proposed Rule. In summary, the Final Rule is “grounded in the concept of substituted compliance” but is not without some additional operational obligations, and it does not address all issues related to this new “harmonized” regime.

Financials

  • ICE Clear Europe announced that ICE Clear Europe successfully introduced client clearing for European credit default swaps (CDS) on Oct. 7, 2013, with five clients actively clearing trades.
  • CBOE Holdings, Inc. announced today that Chicago Board Options Exchange and CBOE Futures Exchange will launch trading on Russell 2000® Volatility Index options and futures.
