What do you get when you combine rock-n-roll, the trading business, and a group that makes it possible for the lame to walk? In my case, what you get is a win/win/win and what it's called is ALTSO Rocktoberfest.
Let me explain:
~ my earliest and happiest memories involve music: the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, buying 45s at Paul's Record Store, The Who smashing guitars and drum kits, and me as the lead singer for the first punk band in Iowa - Johnny S**t and the Fatboys. Simply put, I love rock-n-roll.
~ add in financial markets, from working as a runner at the Chicago Board of Trade, to trading FX options at First Chicago, to being employee #3 for OTC Clearing at ICE, I've spent over 30 great years in the derivatives and trading business
~ top it all off with A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO), a group that provides therapy, surgery, and prostheses to children in the developing world that suffer from limb disabilities due to birth defects, disease, or accidents. ALTSO gives a new life to children, giving them a hand up so they can live a life beyond handouts, a life where they can stand on their own two legs.
So, how does this all add up? The sum of these parts is ALTSO Rocktoberfest and it's coming to Chicago on October 3 and New York City on October 23. Rocktoberfest features rock bands from the financial industry coming together for one night to raise funds to support the efforts of ALTSO. Rocktoberfest began 10 years ago in New York and 2013 is the second year that we're going to rock in Chicago as well. I am one of the committee members here in Chicago and I would love it if you would come out and rock with us on October 3 at the Crossroads Stage at the House of Blues. In addition to a rocking good time with premier members of the trading industry, you'll be helping children to life full and happy lives. What could be better?
