Trading Places: Newedge makes global metals appointments

A wrap-up of promotions and moves from around the industry

Newedge announced several senior appointments in its metals business in London, Hong Kong and New York. Peter Barrowcliff, previously the brokerage’s global chief operation officer for metals, will now be global head of metals. Brian Flaherty was hired as U.S. head of metals, based in New York, and Wendy Law and Alan Burr, who both joined the firm from Natixis, have been promoted to co-heads of Asia-Pacific Metals.

Interactive Data Corp. made several appointments to a new regional product management team designed to help the global expansion of its FutureSource market data and analytics platform. James T. Moock, Jr. joined the company as commodities and energy product manager for the Americas, and Daren Robson will hold the same position in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Dean Backer is now president of Hedge Funds Care, an international non-profit organization which works to prevent and treat child abuse. For the past 10 years, Backer has been a partner at Goldman Sachs, where he is also the global head of sales and capital introduction in the global securities services business.

CBOE Holdings announced changes in its leadership team that will become affective after its annual meeting in May. Longtime Chairman and CEO William Brodsky will step down as CEO and serve as executive chairman for at least one year. President and COO Ed Tilly will take over as CEO and Chief Business Development Officer Edward Provost will succeed Tilly as CBOE President and COO.

Börje Ekholm was named chairman of the NASDAQ OMX Group Inc.’s Board of Directors. Ekholm, who has served as the exchange company’s interim chairman since May 25, has been CEO and president of Investor AB since 2005.

Emmanual Roman was appointed CEO of Man Group. Roman previously served as president and chief operating officer of the investment management business. He replaces Peter Clarke, who will leave his post on Feb. 28, 2013.

Peter Lacalamita joined Thalēs Trading Solutions as managing director of sales and relationship management. Lacalamita comes to the Independent Introducing Broker from JPMorgan, where he most recently was managing director of prime broker sales.

Alan Grigoletto was promoted to vice president for Options Industry Council (OIC) Education for the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC). In his new role, he will expand OIC’s educational programs to credit unions and CPAs and help to develop European education programs. The OCC also promoted Cindy James to vice president of human resources.

Natasha Stromberg is now manager, regulation of the Futures and Options Association (FOA). She joins the FOA from the Financial Services Authority, where she was a senior associate in FSA’s derivatives market infrastructure and policy unit, and lead supervisor of the London Metal Exchange.

April Rudin will serve as chairperson on the Hedge Fund Association’s (HFA) newly created High Net Worth Advisory Board, which is charged with developing educational and networking programs for high net worth investors. Ryan Mitchell was also promoted to regional director of HFA’s West Coast chapter.

Ed Boyle joined the BOX Options Exchange as senior vice president of business development and strategy. Boyle has more than 20 years of industry experience at companies including TD Securities, LETCO Trading, Getco and NYSE Euronext, where he was an executive vice president.

Christopher Behney is now managing director and head of enterprise production assurance at the Depository and Clearing Corp. (DTCC). Behney, who previously was managing director and region head of UBS’s group technology infrastructure organization, will also head up the DTCC’s Dallas office.

Jamie Crank was named head of market operations at Chi-X Australia Pty Ltd., a subsidiary of Chi-X Global Holdings. Crank comes to the trading venue operator from the London Stock Exchange, where he most recently served as head of commercial management, equity & derivatives markets.

David Mudie is now chief executive officer at R.J. O’Brien (UK) Ltd., the firm’s London-based operation. Mudie most recently was European head of institutional and retail sales, marketing and execution at Pension Financial Services Ltd. His prior work experience also includes stints at MF Global UK Ltd., Newedge, Refco Overseas Ltd. and Cantor Fitzgerald International Ltd.
