Trading Places: Babule takes lead at Newedge USA

CEO of Newedge USA Antoine BabuleAntoine Babule was named CEO for Newedge USA, LLC. In addition to this role, he also will serve as regional head of America. Babule has been with the firm since 1995, most recently serving as chief administrative officer, and was CEO of Newedge Canada from January 2008 to September 2010. Newedge CEO, Nicolas Breteau, said, “Antoine has been an integral member of our organization for nearly 18 years and has played a significant role in building Newedge’s industry leading position. With this experience, as well as his passion for our industry and focus on our clients’ needs, Antoine is well placed to take our Americas business to the next stage of development in a rapidly changing marketplace.” Babule replaces Bill Sexton, who recently left the firm.

Paul O’Donnell is returning to Morgan Stanley at the end of the summer as a managing director in the New York City area. O’Donnell has served as COO at BATS Chi-X Europe since 2008 and was among the found employees of BATS Europe. Prior to that, he had been with Morgan Stanley for 14 years.

Hüseyin Erkan was appointed secretary general at the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). Most recently, Erkan was chairman and CEO of the Istanbul Stock Exchange, a post he was appointed to by the Turkish government. Looking forward, Erkan says, “My goal is to expand and enhance WFE’s service and advocacy for well-regulated exchanges, particularly during this period of rapid global economic transformation.”

K Duker was named CEO at Oanda. Duker succeeds Michael Stumm, who will remain a member of the company Board. He joined Oanda in 2008 as managing director of Oanda Asia Pacific to establish the Singapore office and oversee the company’s growing operations in the region. “My passion is to build teams for success and I believe success can only be measured by how well we meet the needs of the client,” Duker said in a statement. “Michael Stumm used this same philosophy to develop OANDA into a leading forex provider and this approach will continue to be Oanda’s calling card.”

Thomas J. Butler was appointed director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s new office of Credit Ratings. In the position, he will oversee a staff of approximately 25 lawyers, accountants, and examiners responsible for examining and monitoring the nine registered Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organizations (NRSROs). He previously spent 14 years working at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and its predecessors including Citi Global Wealth Management.

Vesna Straser was hired as a product manager for trading analytics at CQG. She most recently worked at Barclays Plc. where she was responsible for product management of equity algorithmic trading strategies for the Americas. “I am very excited to join CQG and look forward to the valuable opportunity to further strengthen CQG’s trading analytics’ capabilities as well as build upon synergies with the algorithmic execution space,” Straser said in a statement.

Michael Clarke transitioned from CEO to chairman at Clarke Capital Management and John O’Brien, Jr. assumed the role of CEO, effective June 30. O’Brien, who is taking on day-to-day management responsibilities, will focus on enhancing CCM’s marketing, distribution and product development.  Clarke will continue to guide corporate strategy with an emphasis on research.
