Commodities

  • CME Group announced the launch of CBOT Black Sea Wheat Futures to begin trading on June 6, subject to regulatory approval. The launch of these contracts, which will be listed with, and subject to, the rules and regulations of the CBOT, is an extension of the MOU that was initiated by CME Group Chairman Emeritus Leo Melamed last year.
  • Dubai Commodities Exchange (DGCX) announced the launch of Copper Futures. The region’s first copper contracts went live on April 20, 2012, and will be cleared by the Dubai Commodities Clearing Corporation.
  • ICE Futures U.S. will launch trading in futures for corn, wheat and soybeans on May 14, and options on May 15, pending review by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
  • ICE will launch 26 cleared OTC products on April 30, among which are swaps for Singapore unleaded gasoline and 180- and 380-centisoke fuel oil offered in lots of 100 metric tons. This brings ICE’s total cleared OTC energy contracts to more than 700.
  • NYSE Liffe started offering wheat, barley, corn and rapeseed contracts expiring as far out as January 2015 to improve commercial users’ ability to hedge prices.

Options

  • OptionsCity Software has added Knight’s automated trading services and algorithms for equities into both its Metro and Freeway platforms. OptionsCity Metro and Freeway users can also employ Knight's suite of algorithmic trading strategies.
  • ICE Futures U.S. will launch trading in futures for corn, wheat and soybeans on May 14, and options on May 15, pending review by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
  • NYSE Liffe U.S. announced that it launched options on its mini-sized gold and mini-sized silver futures contracts. The options on NYSE Liffe U.S. 33.2 oz. mini gold and 1,000 oz. mini silver futures contracts provide traders flexibility by offering multiple trading strategies, enhanced risk management capabilities and added depth and liquidity to the underlying mini gold and mini silver futures market.

Forex

  • Micex RTS launched trading in long-term USD/RUB FX swap.
  • SET plans to launch Thai baht/US dollar exchange rate futures in the second quarter of this year.
  • Interbank FX, a division of TradeStation Forex Inc., re-introduced IBFXConnect. The platform bridges the gap between social media and the fastest-growing financial market in the world. IBFXConnect allows customers to trade FX alongside traders from around the globe.
  • E*TRADE announced that it has launched retail forex trading, providing customers with the opportunity to broaden and diversify their portfolios though access to global currency markets, research and education.

Financials

  • Quote MTF announced details of QLX, a Liquidity-on-Demand hybrid book. Scheduled for launch in June, QLX will offer equities trading participants increased control over how, and with whom, they trade.
  • NYSE Euronext and research company Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) jointly launch three sector-focused global clean energy stock indices. The indices will allow investors to track in detail the quoted companies most involved in the world’s shift to low-carbon energy.
  • The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced that it began publishing values for the CBOE "VIX of VIX" Index. As its name implies, the CBOE's VIX of VIX Index tracks the volatility of the CBOE Volatility Index.
  • CME Group and BM&FBOVESPA announced a cross-listing and cross-licensing agreement involving S&P 500 Index and Bovespa Index futures.  BVMF also will license CME Group's Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) Mini-sized Soybean and NYMEX Light Sweet Crude Oil (WTI) futures settlement prices.  The agreement provides the companies the opportunity to license additional products in the future.

Technology

  • OptionsCity Software has added Knight’s automated trading services and algorithms for equities into both its Metro and Freeway platforms.
  • BME Market Data will expand its range of information products for the Spanish stock market to include daily data on securities lending and margin buying as well as monthly information on floating capital tranches and liquidity of stocks.
  • Orc announced the regional launch of Orc Market Maker, a server based solution that combines the speed, scalability and rich functionality demanded in today’s competitive markets.
  • FINCAD announced the launch of FINCAD Analytics Suite 2012.1. The latest version of the product offers a number of new functionalities including curve construction enhancements such as Fed Funds curves and Smooth Forward Curves.
  • Stellar Trading Systems announced the launch of its ultra-low latency Aggregator as the latest addition to its server-side product suite. This feature allows users to trade aggregated instruments on any number of exchanges. A powerful rules engine determines best execution of those trades based on customer preferences.
  • eSignal announced a new version of its trading software, which offers increased flexibility to help active traders manage their positions. The new functionality in eSignal 11.4 includes simultaneous trading integration with more than 30 brokers and service providers, plus trend line alerts and an advanced trade log to export trades for further analysis.
  • IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) announced the release of WebICE version 12.600 as well as other ICE platform improvements, including additional support for customized trading strategies.
  • Newedge Group announced the launch of Phase 2 of their Smart Order Router platform for U.S. equity options and cash equities products. The in-house, low-latency routing platform is open to executing market participants.
  • Trading Technologies International, Inc. released an upgrade to the TT trading platform, including the flagship X_TRADER order-entry screen and the Strategy Engine (SE) proximity-based execution servers.
