Transforming energy with natural gas

T. Boone Pickens on TED

In October 2010 we talked with T. Boone Pickens about his energy plan for America in which he advocates reducing America's dependence on foreign oil with domestic natural gas. Although Congress failed to adopt any of the measures he was lobbying for at the time, his tenacity has not slackened.

Pickens recently was invited to speak at TED 2012 about his vision and plan for America. TED is a series of conferences that are held with the sole purpose of spreading ideas. Topic covered include everything from energy plans to animal behavior to “mathamagic.” I strongly recommend checking out what TED has to offer.

Below is the video of Pickens’ talk at this year’s TED held in Long Beach, Calif. In it, he details the need to get off foreign oil and why he believes natural gas is the “bridge fuel” that will take us to new energy possibilities. Additionally, toward the end he addresses some of the allegations against fracking that recently have been made.

After watching it, be sure to see what Pickens said in 2010, then tell us what you think. Can natural gas live up to Pickens' claims?
