Stock indexes pushing year’s lows

S&P 500 (Figure 2)

The S&P 500 ($SPX) loss of 18.02 points, or 1.4%, and closed at 1,270.98. Only twenty-five of the index components in the S&P 500 posted a gain on Friday. The top performers were AK Steel Holding Corp. (AKS) (+3.61%), American International Group (AIG) (+3.06%), First Solar (FSLR) (+2.66%), and Goldman Sachs (GS) (+1.79%). The weakest performers were Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT) (-6.66%), Janus Cap. Group (JNS) (-4.61%), ETrade Financial Corp. (ETFC) (-4.01%), and Cummins Inc. (CMI) (-3.84%). The S&P 500 ended the week lower by 2.24%, but is still up 1.1% on the year.
