Italy freezes BNP Paribas assets in derivatives case

Italian tax police have confiscated 17 million euros ($24 million) from French bank BNP Paribas. The seizure is part of an inquiry into derivatives that a BNP Paribas-owned bank sold to local governments in Sicily, Messina and Taormina.

The investigation has been ongoing since 2009.
