Liberty Funds Group, Hammersmith Partners announce alliance

Liberty Funds Group, Inc was founded in 1981 as a Commodity Pool Operator. For over two decades Liberty raised capital from high net worth individuals and allocated capital from its private investment funds to Commodity Trading Advisors. In 2004, Liberty made a conscious decision to construct its own trading strategies and to become a content company, rather than a distribution company. “It was not an easy decision” says Craig Caudle, CEO of Liberty, “but we felt like we had a team in place with enough experience, talent, and commitment to create and deliver solutions in the CTA space.” Today, Liberty, while still advising clients on CTA selection for $68 million in assets, now manages just over $50 million itself as a CTA. “We started off with a trend following model like most other CTAs”, says Caudle, “but have developed unique option, term structure, and short term trading strategies over the last six years. Our unique strategies, which are not correlated to trend following or any other managed futures programs, have been a benefit for our Fund investors and I believe hold the most promise for our firm going forward.”

Hammersmith Partners Ltd. was formed recently by a distinguished group of alternative investment professionals. Hammersmith’s objectives are to identify and to invest in Commodity Trading Advisors or hedge fund managers that the group believes to possess experienced management teams, solid infrastructure, and compelling strategies. According to the partners, Hammersmith was an idea that developed over time. Each of the partners has unique experience in the field of alternative investments. Individually and collectively, the partners have been a part of creating and growing many successful investment products in this space. Hammersmith believes that it can offer more than just working capital to the right organization.

“We are very excited about working with Hammersmith Partners” agrees Caudle. “The opportunity for our head of research, Chris Strong, to share ideas with and get feedback from the partners at Hammersmith is priceless. We also believe the direction and feedback we receive on the product side from Hammersmith should provide Liberty with its next avenue of growth”.
