The huge break in equity markets on May 6 has regulators and exchanges scrambling for an explanation and media outlets looking for a smoking gun. While several theories have been floated, last week CME Group put out a white paper explaining what happened on their markets and how the safeguards in place worked. Many people interpret large selling activity in the E-mini S&P 500 as proof of cause but CME says their markets basically did what they are supposed to do.
