Energy position limits: Stakeholders sound off to regulators

The CFTC has asked for public comment on potential position limits in energy market futures. Proponents say the limits will rein in what they consider excessive speculation in oil and gas.

On the one hand, comments from exchanges and other futures industry firms say the limits would hurt liquidity, disproportionately harm smaller exchanges and fail to achieve stated goals. On the other hand, some entities representing commercial energy interests say the proposals don't go far enough.
