Equity futures start trading in China

Long-awaited stock index futures will begin trading in China on Friday, a historic milestone for the country's financial industry.

The start of trading follows more than three years of practice. Still, China's regulators are allowing only a select group to trade equity-based derivatives in their home market.

Also coming this year: short selling and margin trading. Both were rolled out on a trial basis on March 31.
