Late Wednesday afternoon CME Group and Dow Jones & Company announced the signing of a joint venture agreement that will own Dow Jones Indexes with CME holding 90% and Dow holding 10%. Dow Jones Indexes owns the famous Dow Jones Industrial Average and an estimated 130,000 other index properties.
The joint venture agreement is expected to close in the first quarter, pending regulatory approval. Terms of the agreement call for the joint venture to license the Dow Jones name with Dow Jones retaining ownership of the brand.
A Dow Jones Index spokesperson says, “This is exciting news and we are excited about upcoming opportunities.” The spokesperson adds that the joint venture will provide growth strategies.
