Gensler approved as CFTC chair

Gary Gensler was confirmed as chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on May 19. He was nominated to head the agency in January. “Gensler will not only maintain the stellar regulatory performance of the past, but expand the current panoply of oversight to an expanded charge, the OTC derivatives markets,” said CFTC Acting Chairman Michael Dunn in a statement. Gensler was undersecretary of the Treasury from 1999 to 2001.

Dan Berkovitz was named general counsel at the CFTC. Previously, he served as counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Jeffrey Bauml and his sugar trading group joined R.J. O’Brien. Previously he served as managing director of soft commodities trading at BNP Paribas. Chris Cody, Bauml’s colleague, joins him at RJO.

Raymond Denney was named senior vice president, foreign exchange marketing at Newedge. Previously he was head of FX prime brokerage for JPMorgan Chase. Daniel Fischer was named senior vice president, foreign exchange marketing at Newedge. Previously he was head of foreign exchange marketing at Natixis. Nic Jones was named director, foreign exchange marketing at Newedge. Previously he was managing director of FX marketing at JP Morgan Chase.

John Cameron has departed Orc Software to establish the consulting firm, Cameron Edge.

Todd Rich was promoted to vice president, sales & marketing at the Boston Options Exchange (BOX). Previously, he was a director at BOX.

Tim Youssef and Nimit Savani were named managing directors and co-heads of derivatives at Lighthouse Financial.

George Handjinicolaou, ISDA’s deputy chief executive officer, has been appointed vice chairman of the Hellenic Capital Markets commission.

Guillaume Detrait was named managing director, chief risk officer, at Welton Investment Corporation.
