Electronic softs = hot

For markets that were not even being considered for electronic trading one year ago, the New York Board of Trade’s (Nybot) softs complex have taken to electronic trading in a big way. The entire complex traded 13,164 contracts, approximately 11% of total volume, on Feb. 2, its first day. The second day, electronic volume nearly doubled and the third day saw electronic volume reach 48,884 contracts, more than 24% of exchange volume. Nybot recently merged with the Intercontinental Exchange and agreed to place its products on the ICE electronic platform.
